Book a Taxi With No Internet: VanTele Works on Any Phone

Most ride apps assume you have a smartphone, a data bundle and good network. Most Namibians, especially outside the big towns, are excluded before they even start. VanTele Mobility was built the other way around: it works on ANY phone, including the small Nokia in your pocket.

Dial and book. Dial the VanTele USSD code and a simple text menu appears: book a ride, check a fare, send a parcel, track a parcel, see your trips or sign up as a driver. Type the town names, confirm the price, done. No app, no internet, no airtime wasted.

Or send one SMS. Text the word TAXI to VanTele and a verified driver calls you back to arrange your ride. Every booking is confirmed by SMS, so you always have the details in writing.

The price is the price. Fares are fixed and shown before you confirm, rounded to N$5 for easy cash. In-town rides start from N$15. A trip like Onhuno to Oshakati is about N$50, and Okongo to Eenhana about N$90. No haggling at the window.

Safe on any phone. The driver who arrives is verified, with a valid licence and road transportation permit checked before their first ride. On night rides between 22:00 and 05:00, your emergency contact automatically receives an SMS with a live link that follows your trip.

Parcels too. Register a parcel from the same menu, get a VTM tracking code by SMS, and know that only your recipient's secret code can complete the delivery.

Your gogo in the village can book the same safe ride you book on the app. That is what a transport platform for Namibia should look like.
